John Aquaviva, interview, english version

John Aquaviva: Music is my mistress

- We are all very excited about you playing in Sarajevo, and as long as I can remember, this is your first gig in Bosnia, right?

Yes my first time! Really looking forward to it. I have had many messages from people excited about the visit, so i think it will be very nice

- So, before you accepted to come, did you have some second thoughts about this contry, because recent war, and strange news and stuff you can hear on world news? What do you expect? And what can we expect?

I know a lot of the area and people. So I know what to expect I think... Great hospitality and energy

- Will you come in Beatport T-shirt? J

Not sure but always have a beatport shirt around

- You have been clubber for a long time before you start working as a DJ. After all this years, do you stil sometimes just go to some party as a visitor and dance with people? Or it's something you cannot do anymore?

It is something i really dont do any more, but playing for people and making them dance is a great satisfaction for me. Just did some super parties in Toronto and Bogota this past month... They were the highlights for me.

- Do you ever get tired of your job? I've red all about your love and entusiasm for music, but do you sometimes feel like... overloaded? What do you do in such moments?

Never tired of music... But travel is another story... Getting to and from Sarajevo is a killer but that is the price you pay to come to a place. I feel off the energy of the people, so that will not be a problem

- What is worst and greatest thing in beenig John Aquaviva?

For me I try to avoid extremes. It is simply nice to be me. Not great and not bad. Perhaps the one thing... My wife an I always say and note... The best thing about our success is we can go to a good restaurant and order whatever we want without worrying about the price. Music has been very good to me and I try to be good back to everything music is.

- You travel a lot, so, what is main difference between music and parties in Canada and USA, and Europe?

European club culture is best. Long story...

- Which is like weirdest (strangest, Im not sure in spelling here) place you play at?

In the thousands of gigs, i have played in crazy places... In an airplane while flying (converted a section to a dancefloor)... A bomb shelter underground as well as in a mountain. IN a swimming pool, though everyone splashed on my records ;) Almost anywhere you can imagine or dream of having a party.

- Beatport is biggest dance music download site in the world. What do you think how will it looks buying music ten years from now? How music will look alike? Would vinyl be dead?

I think vinyl will be very rare and special, like art. Future of distribution is digital and i dont see that changing

- You alwys mention those younger and perspectiv DJs, you supporting and promote them, so, tell us, who we should follow carefully?

There are many, but I am all about Olivier Giacomotto from France and DJ Remo from Milan. They are my favourite young guys

- Have you read book "Electroshoc" Laurenta Garniera? What do you think about it? (It's like Holy Bible to us:))

Yes, i have it in french thought i cannot read it. Luarent is a great friend and personality in our world

- Have you heard of EXIT festival in Serbia? Maybe we can expect you sometimes soon on Petrovaradin Castle?

Yes, one time. in NIS right? VERY good energy as i remember it...

And, last question... You have wife and kid(s), but, we're sure girls still hunting you. So, how you menage this "problem"?

My wife and I have an agreement... I can choose one mistress... and that is.... MUSIC
